Getting some last minute photos for local Reading band RAAYS.
I have not done a photoshoot like this for a good few years, and seemed like a great challenge. I am used to getting shots of bands performing, not promo shots for a magazine spread, but in the end it’s all for the same goal, a great photo showing off a moment in time. This is how I approached this shoot, knowing I just needed to capture the band feeling at ease and enjoying themselves, just as they would be on stage.
It was late, and the natural night had gone, and I just had a Nissin i40 for light, which I was remotely firing using the X-T1’s flash. This simple setup worked, which was good, as it was all I had. The Nissin i40’s simple operation matches the X-T1 perfectly, one dial to set the mode (TTL, Manual, optical trigger etc) and one for flash exposure compensation or flash brightness in manual mode
The Nissin i40 is a great flash for the Fujifilm X-T1, and until I get a wireless flash system it is doing the job. I’d like to get 3 flashguns for work like this, and have a radio wireless system so I don’t need line of sight to each flash gun.
The Fujifilm X-T1 and the FX 35mm prime lens worked great for this shoot, and I was happy I didn’t have to run home to get my DSLR!
